YCS One-Line NFL Predictions - Week One

>> Sunday

I came up with the idea of predicting every game each week with a one-sentence analysis of what I think is gonna happen. Next week I hope to have more of the YCS staff participate but it was too short notice to do it this week. If nothing else, I bet we can be more successful than Dr. Z or guys like Chris Mortensen and Merrill Hodge.

Week 1:

Atlanta at Carolina: The absence of Steve Smith leads to a slow start on offense dooms the Panthers as the Falcons pull off the early upset.

Baltimore at Tampa Bay: Baltimore wins a low scoring game on a late TD pass from Steve McNair.

Buffalo at New England: The offensive situation in Buffalo proves to be as ugly as it looks as the Bills are outmatched all day when the Patriots roll with strong performances on both sides of the ball.

Cincinnati at Kansas City: Save for Larry Johnson, the Chiefs offense fails to fire on all cylinders as Rudi Johnson leads the Bengals to a high scoring W.

Denver at St. Louis: The Rams demonstrate why they're a sexy pick to win the NFC West and Denver's offense struggles as the Rams upset the Broncos behind a strong game from Steven Jackson.

New Orleans at Cleveland: The excitement of seeing Reggie Bush in a real game is the only excitement for Saints fans as the Browns roll over New Orleans.

NY Jets at Tennessee: In the ugliest game of the week, Tennessee proves that its bad offense is better than New York's bad offense in a game filled with turnovers on both sides.

Philadelphia at Houston: Donovan McNabb shows flashes of his 2004 self and leads the Eagles to an easy W over the Texans, who still won't block for David Carr.

Seattle at Detroit: Despite its recent additions, Detroit can't move the ball against the Hawks as they struggle to contain Shaun Alexander.

Chicago at Green Bay: I'm not picking this game.

Dallas at Jacksonville: The T.O. era begins with a wimper as the Jags' D shuts down the Cowboys en route to a low scoring victory.

San Francisco at Arizona: While some experts like the upset here, the Cardinals roll thanks to - what else? - their passing game over the hapless Niners.

Indianapolis at NY Giants: Big brother wins bragging rights in a close game with plenty of offensive fireworks.

Minnesota at Washington: Joe Gibbs finds the power back he loves in TJ Duckett as the Redskins bruise their way to victory in a yawner in D.C.

San Diego at Oakland: Oakland brings the suck from the preseason into the regular season as LT, Rivers, Gates and the Chargers blow through the black hole with ease.

We'll see you next week to prove how wrong I am.

10-2 after Sunday's games. Not bad, although your low-scoring, high-scoring predictions were a bit off.

Very true, I'm done pickin' scores, that job's for Vegas.

By my count, Dr. Z is 5-3 right now with a Raiders win pending. Good work.
