Huh?

FIFA wants to arrange a reunion between Zinedine Zidane and World Cup head-butt-recipient Marco Materazzi, with the aim of "putting it behind them." Thing is, Zidane has already said, "It's in the past," so he's seemingly moved on.
I may be unclear on how the phrase works, but if you want to put something behind you, don't you NOT bring it up again? Even more so, not stage an event to rehash it?
Your conclusion, a redundant peace ceremony that seemingly no one wants to participate in, reliving one of the ugliest/coolest chapters of World Cup history.

Hi, I'm Mike Sever. Today is the fifth anniversary of 9/11 and we're right in the middle of a huge opening weekend of NFL football and a pennant race. So, I'm gonna post about...soccer.
Damn you, Sever!
Hey, it's a sad day. Any joy/humor that's in good taste is fine by me.
Which reminds me...
You've probably already noticed, but I have taken it upon myself to enforce a cutoff for soccer stories.
That is to say, from Friday at 7:00 ET until Tuesday morning (i.e. football time) any soccer post you try to put on YCS will be deleted. So you've got three and a half days to talk about your silly no-hands-allowed sport. Leave the weekends to American sports.
Haha fair enough, but you're ignoring the fact that Saturday/Sunday is also football (round ball) time.
