Mid-Season Awards

>> Monday

Quickly, before the Home Run Derby starts, I thought I'd post some mid-season awards. These are MY PICKS and my picks only, so I expect some debate (as well as some comments on how great and right my picks are). Hey, it's something to do during the two baseball-less days of the summer.

NL MVP – Albert Pujols (He may have missed some time due to injury, but he still leads the NL in OPS and Home Runs, and is second in RBIs.)
AL MVP – Magglio Ordonez (Ortiz, Thome and Hafner are all having great years, but they still only play half the game.)

NL Cy Young – Brandon Webb
(Arizona would not be in the playoff race without him. Plus, who the hell else is there from the National League to pick? Maybe Brad Penny, but I'm going with Webb.)
AL Cy Young – Roy Halladay (Same reasoning as Webb. Halladay is the reason that Toronto enters the All-Star Break with a chance to finish ahead of at least New York if not Boston.)

NL ROY – Dan Uggla (I really wanted to pick Prince. I REALLY wanted to. But Uggla's numbers are just flat out better.)
AL ROY – Jonathan Papelbon (I really don't like picking closers for any kind of award, and I think by the end of the year I'll be taking Justin Verlander, but at this point, I can't look over that 0.57 ERA)

The one I mostly don't like is Ordonez. Yeah, he's been pretty good, but just because he plays defense, doesn't mean he has all that much positive impact by doing so. I know I'd take Hafner kicking the ball around at first over Ordonez. Plus, if I were picking an outfielder, I'd go with Jermaine Dye and Vernon Wells over Ordonez anyway. And don't forget Joe Mauer--a guy who really does make a difference on defense.

My Cy Young would be different too. Fuck it; I'll just make a post out of this.

(Also, does Papelbon qualify? He played a decent amount last year.)
