Senseless Blurbs for 6-6-6

>> Tuesday

And by the way, how much airplay do you think "Sympathy for the Devil" got on radio stations today? For a good Satan song, I'd recommend "Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson. FYI.

Who are these people...
...that care so much about Roger Clemens? When it comes to baseball, it's pretty safe to say I'm as big a fan as they come. Do I have any interest in a full-length AP story, photographs, and video press conference clips for his first A-ball rehab start? (Well...do I?) The answer is no. I mildly took interest in hearing his stat line. Mildly.

And what did the ten-times-normal press corps do for the other six innings after Clemens finished pitching. Watch him spit seeds? Report on the Chevron Junior Lexington Legends Dizzy Bat Race? Ridiculous.

To us casuaul hockey fans...
Marc-Andre Bergeron is simply the guy who plowed over his own star goaltender. For those of you who missed Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals, here's what happened.

Considerably? If you insist.
WGN graphic tonight:
Aramis Ramirez
This season: .246 BA, 10 HR, 31 RBI
One year ago today: .271 BA, 11 HR, 28 RBI

Bob Brenley: "As you can see, his power numbers are about the same this year, but his average is down considerably." (Emphasis is both mine and his.)

Ramirez had 199 ABs coming into tonight. If he'd had just five more hits up to this point, he would be hitting .271 this year. It's funny how easily people are duped by 25 BA points. What if BA was reported on a two-digit percentage basis. Would anyone really think 27% versus 25% is that considerable of a difference? Proportional comparison, people.

The White Sox need to STOP BUNTING...
...except maybe when Brian Anderson is up because he's basically the equivalent of a bad-hitting pitcher. Tonight the White Sox botched another sacrifice bunt, prompting announcers Hawk Harrelson and Darrin Jackson to make nearly identical comments to those I blogged about last week. Ozzie Guillen--you're ruining your team with your senseless wasted outs, and it bothers me as a baseball fan.

Matt Murton should've been named Paddy O'Callahan instead.
He has the reddest red hair I've ever seen on an athlete. He's like Lucille Ball.

The definition of "patronizing"
Tonight's espn.com poll question is, "Who is your favorite No. 6?" (Get it? You know, for 6/6/06. It's their cutesy, strained attempt to be festive.) Along with Stan Musial, Bill Russel, Dr. J, and Mark Martin--itself a shameless pandering to the NASCAR cult--the poll writers included Brandi Chastain as an option. That's right--fomer (I think) U.S. Women's Soccer Team member Brandi Chastain.

And if you must know, I voted for Stan Musial because Harry Caray always talked about how great Stan Musial was. And Harry Caray was a crazy old drunk.

You THINK Brandi Chastain was a former U.S. soccer player?
Around the time all of us were first beginning to take notice of those intriguing mounds on girls' chests, how could you forget Brandi Chastain's shirtless photo on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the big words YES! printed accross the page?

Oh we all remember that. (Of course, in hindsight, the thrill was pretty unwarranted.) The "think" part was meant to express my uncertainty as to whether she still plays soccer. Regardless, no one knows/cares what number was on that jersey she ripped off. And 10% voted for her...what a travesty!!!

She beat out Mark Martin. She did her job.
