This picture pretty much sums up today's USA-Italy match. As far as the writing goes in terms of the coverage, everything I've seen on Fox Soccer and ESPN Soccernet seems pretty straight forward, except for one line in Jamie Trecker's article on Fox Soccer, where he said that after the game the US had something they didn't have that morning: A chance to advance from the group.
You can never GAIN a chance, you can only lose it. No matter how obscure the possibility, as long as it is there, you still have a chance. You can't lose it and then gain it back.
As for the game itself, a 9-man US (where both red cards were total bullshit), held off the Azurri to gain their first World Cup point on European soil. The US team was aggressive and controlled the run of play- two elements sorely lacking in their blowout loss against the Czech Republic. And as much as I hate to admit it, this soccer blogger's most hated USA players Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey had really good games. Kasey Keller, Bobby Convey and Damarcus Beasley also played very well. The US can advance to the second round with a win against Ghana and if the Italians beat the Czechs on Thursday. Go USA. Forza Azurri.

On top of it, one of your favorites, Demarcus Beasley looked kind of like he was just dickin' around out there when he got touches.
And I'll admit--I wasn't too caught up in USA winning before today, but now I'm pretty convinced that everyone has it in for them, and now I want to see them win so that everyone's pissed off. It would make the tournament even more interesting.
What are you talking about? DMB almost got a goal just minutes after coming off the bench. It was a flawless shot that would have been the game-winning goal had McBride not been offsides by a foot.
In the Czech game, yea, DMB was flat, but in this game, Beasley played the same role he had in Korea/Japan- a super-sub in the second half.
Yeah, I saw that shot, but I think I'm racist and interpreted his performance as I did accordingly.
