The three finalists to win the US Olympic Committee's bid to host the 2016 Summer Games has been trimmed to two. 2016 will likely be the last shot for the US to host the Games for some time.
San Francisco has bowed out and withdrawn their bid due to failure to secure plans for a new stadium at Candlestick Point, an event coupled with the 49ers looking to secure a stadium in Santa Clara. At this point Los Angeles is considered the favorite, followed closely by Chicago. The 2016 games will be awarded by the IOC in Summer 2009.
