Backhanded Congratulations Are in Order!

Congratulations Notre Dame on your record-setting Sugar Bowl performance. You just lost your 9th consecutive bowl game. No school in NCAA history has ever done that. But before you go patting yourself on the back for actually making 9 consecutive bowls, remember that you didn't. You didn't even go to a bowl game following the 1996, 1999, 2001, or 2003 seasons.
Your graduating seniors this year were 9 years old the last time you won a bowl game.
God dammit you suck.

That's exactly the point Pat. Notre Dame always plays teams that are way out of their league because ND is always overrated.
This is one of the reasons that so many fans (fans of college football, not necessarily Michigan or USC) hate Notre Dame. Take this year for example. They clearly had no business playing in a BCS bowl, but they did anyways. Why? Because they're Notre Dame. In turn, they robbed the fans of a good game (I didn't even make an attempt to watch the Sugar Bowl this year, because it was a foregone conclusion that LSU would manhandle the Irish), and they robbed a more deserving team of a BCS bid.
Notre Dame's bowl record isn't as much of a reflection of the talent level of those teams, but of the fact that they are routinely overratted and pitted against teams that are much better than them. This is a damn shame for college football.
You're right. See Danny's defense of Notre Dame from a while back. THAT is why we hate them so much.
Regardless, good teams find a way to win bowl games. For the last couple years, Wisconsin was supposed to get shelled by supposedly "better and more athletic" SEC teams (Auburn in '06 and Arkansas in '07). Before that, they had a run of years where they were "outmatched" against the Pac-10. But, when they played on the field, Wisco proved that they're good enough to hang with anyone. Bottom line, ND (and ND apologists) shouldn't bitch about having to play good teams, that's part of the nature of being a supposedly "good team." 8 games in a row to teams that are supposedly in your class isn't a fluke, it's consistent awfulness. Print it.
