2007: Off and running.
>> Monday
Well, we're about 16 hours into 2007, and it's already brought some great sports moments. Notes on the day so far...
-I honestly don't know how popular he is in this circle, but I absolutely love Bobby Knight. He handled the 880 ceremony the same way he handles everything else: his way, and in complete control.
-Down in Orlando: Wisconsin fans are celebrating their best season ever, the Big Ten is celebrating the fact that they're showing the SEC who's boss (along with a Penn State win) and Arkansas fans are just happy to be in a place where they can legally drink.
-Speaking of the Penn State win: Joe Paterno sees the world on a personal tape delay. After every big play (good or bad) that Penn State made, they cut to a camera shot of Joe Pa in the booth. Every time they showed him he was asking someone what happened, and then reacting accordingly. My favorite moment of 2007 so far: Fifteen seconds after a Penn State defender broke up a third down pass you can clearly read Paterno's lips saying, "He knocked it down?" and then celebrating after an assistant confirmed that, yes Joe, he knocked it down.
-The best game so far is West Virginia coming back to beat Georgia Tech, discrediting Lee Corso's prediction that Boise State would win the game. (Correction: Ironically, that Boise State game ended up being the hands-down best game of the day, and probably the season).
-Did anyone else see the reporter undercut Ian Johnson's marriage proposal by ruining the surprise? "Well, I know you're going to propose to your girlfriend now, so congratulations." Bitch move.
-Proof that the universe is not fair: Darrent Williams dies in a drive-by and Javon Walker, who was in the same vehicle, isn't scratched.
-The Coach Killer strikes again.
-Speaking of firings, now that Dennis Green has been relieved from his coaching duties, he has time to go on "Identity." The contestents were who I thought they were!
