This post is primarily directed at Matt and Nate, because how often do you get the chance to celebrate your mediocre team's authoritative win over your friends' mediocre team?
Whit that said, J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!
How the Jets are peeking into the playoff picture is beyond me, but it just goes to show you that parity is alive and well in the NFL. Considering I was expecting a 4 win season, anything from here on out is gravy, and a wild card spot in the playoffs would certainly be icing on a cake I wasn't even expecting to eat.
If this is Eric Magini and Mike Tannenbaum's version of "rebuilding", I'm on board.

How's Notre Dame doing?
Sucker.
You got me, I guess I'll just have to get even when I see you in the fantasy playoffs.
Oh, wait...you're not in said playoffs...Oh well, enjoy the bayou ass whoopin' via LSU.
Uh, IF the Jets make the playoffs, expect them to just get murdered. They have one of the worst offenses and defenses in the league and they will easily lose in the first round. That said, I do like what Man-genious is doing out there. Is was awesome seeing "Sweatshirt" "douchebag" Belichek sulk after losing to your Jets.
I think the unexpected early results have everything to do with picking D'Brickshaw Ferguson...You know, not that you were wearing a Jets jersey with Reggie Bush's name and number taped on the back during the draft this spring.
Ah, how I've missed Pat's angry, based on nothing, rants and statements.
For the record, the Jets are 12th overall in points scored and 16th in points allowed. Not the type of performance that's going to get you to the Super Bowl, but certainly not "one of the worst offenses and defenses in the league."
No, no, no, take a look at it again, they are terrible in run / pass defense and the same is true for offense...points are a very flawed stat
Nate,
Good luck in the consolation game.
Matt,
Good luck in the playoffs, it's no secret that I fielded perhaps the most underachieving team in history.
Vinnie,
I came around on the D'Brick pick after I saw what the Jets were doing in the big picture sense. Following up the Ferguson pick with Mangold showed they're really trying to shore up a line for the future, and they still got what I feel was a quality QB in Kellen Clemens. As far as Bush, when the prospect of actually landing the big fish is still a possibility, as it was before the Jets decided not to trade with the Saints, you gotta hold out hope.
Pat,
I never had any visions of the Jets in the Super Bowl. In fact, as I said in the post, I was expecting a 4 win season. Actually, I'd have been fine with said 4 win season, seeing as the team was looking towards the future. The fact that the Jets are even looking at the possibility of a playoff berth is truly icing on the cake for me. The numbers do show we're a middle of the road team, which again, is exceeding all of my expectations. Quote me as saying that the Jets will make it to the AFC Championship, if not further, by 2009.
Points are a flawed stat? The goal of every sport is to score more points than the other team. Points are THE most important stat.
What I meant to say is that you can't base that amount of points a team gives up / scores to how good they are. Looking at the Bears, they would have had about 21-28 less points given up had an interception not been returned for a touchdown ... so obviously that is a flawed stat when looking at their defense
