The weirdest moment in sports broadcasting history just happened right now
>> Saturday
UPDATE: Not long after I posted my non-Tivo-verified account of a weird Mike Patrick moment during tonight's Georgia-Alabama game, FJM posted their own, more accurate one. So has Awful Announcing, and they even provide video.
Also, I just checked the Site Meter referrals, and we had five hits in the hour after the game from Google searches related specifically to this exchange. (Five hits in any hour for anything is sort of our average, so you can imagine how much attention this is getting.) Clearly, it struck a nerve with viewers everywhere (or at least with other nerds sitting at their computers).

Yea, that one baffled me also. The overtime of an exciting football game between two good teams should be the last time you introduce a totally random topic. If he were calling the Wisconsin-Iowa game, it may be somewhat more understandable, what if you're trying to compare Britney's current look to the corn fed girls at Iowa and Wisconsin.
What was so confounding about this particular non-sequitor--besides, of course, the timing and out-and-out randomness of it--was the sense of purpose in his voice. He delivered it with such conviction, as if he actually believed he were raising a relevant question.
This is honestly bugging me. I can usually make sense of almost any human behavior, no matter how odd. But this one has me stumped. I want an answer!
