Something's Rank, or whatever punny title you wish.

Wait, I'm confused....Saturday this was the greatest upset in the history of college football.
Now, did Michigan lose to a team that deserves to be ranked, or with Michigan out of the polls, did Appalachian State beat a team that didn't deserve to be ranked?
AP announces that it will allow Division I-AA teams to recieve votes.

Personally, I find it hilarious that Michigan was dropped ENTIRELY from the polls.
Back me up on this, Zuch... When Chaminade beat Virginia, didn't they still end up being one of the better teams in college hoops that year?
This perfectly epitomizes the knee-jerk nature of college football polls. Loss = drop in rankings, sine que non. Big loss = monumental drop in rankings.
I HIGHLY doubt that Michigan--despite a loss to a probably very talented, very athletic team, albeit one without credentials or D-I status (until next year?)--is actually worse than the hypothetical 25th-best team in the nation. Granted, I know little about Michigan's players, their "true" ability, etc, but if other people who know such things about college football deemed them the fifth-best team entering the season, it's entirely inconceivable to me that they could be any worse than, say, the 15th-best team after one game season.
OVERREACTION, NO????
"...after one game ^in the^ season."
...Zuch Syndrome strikes again!!
One last thing: "Something's rank" was a perfect title. In fact, I'd have chosen that myself... And that's sort of frightening.
For those of you out there who are not budding classics scholars, sine que non is from Latin and means roughly, "Without which, it is impossible."

Yep, Virginia ended up winning the ACC later that season.
I think that the polls should be started in week 4 or 5 to avoid said knee-jerk reactions and also to judge teams on their merits, not their preseason hype.
I will admit to having to look that last fact up, but like Vinnie had assumed that they were still pretty good that season despite that loss. For a more modern example, Michigan State lost to a shitty Wright State team before going on to win the 2000 hoops national title.
Also, does anyone else find it kind of twisted how so many people--people who, for the most part, have no vested interest in either program--took such intense pleasure in Michigan's loss? Schadenfreude to the max, I say.
(And for the record, I had to look up how to spell "schadenfreude" so you need not feel bad Zuch.)
