Amare Stoudemire for MVP
>> Monday
Okay, so we're supposed to post our pick for NBA MVP, since we all agree that Steve "The greatest gym rat ever, because he actually looks like a rat" Nash did not deserve the award.
Well fellas, the true MVP was on the Suns for sure, but it wasn't Nash. In fact, it wasn't a guy who played more than three games.
Amare Stoudemire took a dive for the sake of his team. Sure, in the short term, they don't stand a chance against the likes of San Antonio or Dallas, but they realized quite early on that this was the Pistons' season anyways. But with Stoudemire gone, other players have learned to "take their game to the next level," which will help them win next year.
Last year, Nash and Shawn Marion scored 15.5 and 19.4 points per game, respectively. This year those numbers jumped to 18.8 and 21.8. Somewhere Stoudemire's sitting in a jacuzzi smiling. And why shouldn't he be? Because of his absence, players like Raja Bell and Boris Diaw have had career years in scoring (especially Diaw who jumped from 4.8 points last year with the Hawks to a whopping 13.3 points this year).
I realize I'm only looking at one stat here, but come the fuck on, this is the NBA. Points matter and only points matter. But I guess a lot of people like this rat man for his ability to pass the ball, and even that can be atributed to Stoudemire's absence.
Sure Nash's assists per game dropped by one, but consider this: now that he can't just throw the ball up in the air and have Stoudemire jump from the top of the key to dunk it, he's found new ways to get 10.5 assists per game. It all makes perfect sense.

Oh, I guess I just assumed that you were on crack when you wrote that post.
I think I hear the pot calling the kettle black here.
I also don't agree that Nash doesn't deserve the award, but that seems to be the consensus among sports blogs like this one, so I'll just gloss over that unnecessary jab.
You make some good points about Amare's absence getting the rest of the team involved, but it only really works if Amare comes back 100% and stays there for a meaningful period of time next season, which unfortunately for every NBA fan is not a guarantee.
Stoudemire.
Apparantly, I need to work on making my sarcasm more apparant...although Nash really doesn't deserve the MVP.
Thanks for catching my error on the spelling on Stoudemire's name. We don't want it looking like we half-ass things around here like they do at ESPN.
