Irish to French: Piss off, Frogs

In the past few days I've seen a number of postings, read a few articles, and heard commentators ranging from Sports Illustrated to the Wall Street Journal opining on the early season dominance of dome teams, in particular, the undefeated starts for the Vikings, Colts, and Saints. They say that the Domes are giving them the advantage. I could argue that Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees might have something to do with it as well.
So, before anyone gets carried away on a "Dome-inant" headline pun-writing bonanza, I'd like to point out that the Rams are winless, the Lions are 1-5, and the Cardinals, Cowboys, and Texans are either .500 teams or just a hair better.
Jay Mariotti on Around the Horn this afternoon claimed Yankee Stadium was a "Cathedral of Baseball" despite the stadium only being open for the past six and a half months. Given this standard, one can only conclude that Great American Ballpark is a wonder of the ancient world.
Seconds later he was given a shaving cream pie by my friend Frank from Section 8 Chicago, who works as a program coordinator at ESPN in Chicago. The revolution is coming.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar has joined the bid committee seeking to bring the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup to the United States.
Californian venues hosted games in the 1994 World Cup, and 1999 and 2003 Womens' World Cups, and at least one Californian venue is expected to be included in the 10-12 stadium US bid.
Said Schwarzeneggar, "Soccah is tha wulds most papulah spoat und Kowlifornya has bin hom to some uv its moast eggziting gayims, unt I yam pwowd tuh be ah paht oof bringing tha Wuld Kahp bahk to theh Yoonited Statehs. Schwarzeneggar is believed to have meant, "Soccer is the world's most popular sport and California has been home to some of its most exciting games, and I am proud to be a part of bringing the World Cup back to the United States. The millions of fans from around the globe that will travel to the United States to cheer their teams will prove a great benefit for our state, our nation and the world of soccer."

With last night's debut of Phillies pitching prospect Antonio Bastardo, I got to thinking, who are some of the other all-time most unfortunately-named people in sports? I'm thinking of both guys with names that sound like a dirty word, insult, or something that would suggest being ugly, evil, inept, etcetera. Here's a list off the top of my head. Please add your own below.

Tonight Chicago Fire play a friendly match at Toyota Park against Mexico's Club America. Naturally the Chicago local media are freaking out because of the latest thing to kill us that hasn't.
The Fire are passing out hand sanitizers to fans entering the game tonight, which easily qualifies as the worst promotional item ever.
But in more idiot-headed moves, the Fire have sold 100 tickets in Section 8; the Fire's supporters' section to Club America's Barra supporters from Mexico City. I'm sure this won't result in any problems.

Steelers to wear white for Super Bowl.
Psssh. I can't believe they're wearing white. They've played with a loooooooooot of football teams if you catch my drift.
The author tries to draw a parallel between Pittsburgh wearing white in Super Bowl XL despite being the "home team" because Pittsburgh that year was a wild card and had won all three of their playoff games on the road.
This year, Pittsburgh played two playoff games at home, and Arizona is the "home team" so they got to pick. So the Steelers didn't pick white because they thought it was lucky again. The will wear it because they have to.
Long story short. Aside from the color of the Steelers' shirts, the parallels between the jersey selection process for Super Bowl XL and XLIII end there.

Over the air after Chicago Fire's pitiful performance against Colorado Rapids. Chicago was trying to keep pace at the top of the league heading into the playoff stretch. Colorado was wallowing in mid-table obscurity. Chicago took 72 minutes to register a shot on goal and generally were all-around awful in a 2-0 losing effort.
Apparently the network broadcast came back from commercial a little early and caught the play-by-play team on a hot mike.
"Once we're back we'll show the play of the game...you can jump in, I'll do the [Colorado Rapids'] Omar Cummings incident...and the what do you call it?
OK.

Alright.
And we'll come back and you can tell us why they suck."
