What's the deal with airplane peanuts?

Just wondering... Is there any other "State" school that's known better by their initials than their full name other than LSU? Everytime I hear an announcer say "Louisiana State," I'm like, "Who?" What makes them so special? Am I right, ladies? Don't get me started... Don't even get me started.

VCU. Virginia Commonwealth. I guess that's technically a "State" school since it's the Commonwealth of Virginia, not the State of Virginia.
And the SUNY schools. Always referred to as "Soo-nee" instead of "State University of New York."
That's all I could come up with after looking at my atlas.
PS: Needs replacement. Still has East Germany.
Hahaha, I love how A) you gave me a serious answer and B) you have an atlas handy.
