Milwaukee does it right: Cleveland's "home" opener

>> Wednesday

Now I don't like to brag about our hometown...wait, sure I do.

Milwaukee kicked ass last night. The Indians will tell you the same.

The effects of global warming never seem to help when they're most needed, and this year's blizzards forced Cleveland to play their first "home" game in Miller Park (sadly, best known for the tied All-Star Game). Joe Borowski remembered when Cubs fans would fill half the Miller Park seats in his days with Chicago, and predicted 5-500 fans would show up for the game.

Instead, Milwaukee showed that it truly is a baseball town, and that ten-dollar tickets are reason enough to go to ANY game. Almost 20,000 fans showed up for the game (19,031 is the official number). There were 22,603 fans in Miller Park last Tuesday to watch the Brewers beat the Dodgers. Also, I'm going to go ahead and say that there were more fans in Miller Park than there were in Dolphin Stadium for the Marlins/Brewers game that night (There is no official attendance number for the game, since it was postponed, but on Monday the number was 11,157).

Miller Park still held the sausage race, let the Indians' mascot slide down the slide, and--my favorite--played "Wild Thing" when Borowski came in to close the game. (For anyone who lived under a rock, that would be a reference to Major League, which was filmed in County Stadium). There were also a lot of Major League-referencing signs like the one that read "Jobu needs a refill."

So consider this an official salute to Milwaukee baseball fans, and also a kick in the groin to Matt Bechtel, who refused to go to the game with me because "I don't feel like it." What a bitch, huh?

Boooo!!! Milwaukee's lame! Chicago's better! We have more people! That makes us better! Or don't people in Milwaukee know math? You suck Milwaukee!!! Go back to your dairy farms! And eat dairy products and such!

Nate is so cool and rebellious that without me he still didn't go to the game. What a tough guy.
