Behind the Scenes of the coaching world
>> Monday
I'll preface by stating I'm a huge fan of Billy Gillispie as a basketball coach, and can totally understand his obsession of basketball overriding anything else in life. (Frankly, substitute sports/wrestling with basketball for me, and it's not a helluva lot different). Anyway, doing a late night check on the reactions to the new coaches at Arkansas(John Pelphrey of South Alabama, one of Kentucky's Unforgettables) and Texas A and M (Mark Turgeon of Wichita State), I found a couple of very interesting articles/takes on the Billy Gillispie situation. Before taking the Kentucky job, it was strongly thought Gillispie would be the next coach at Arkansas, and that played a big part in the dismissal of former Hogs coach Stan Heath. While I understand how the coaching profession operates and am not naive to its ways, I will admit to not being a huge fan of it. In the off chance I become a future coach with the opportunity of advancement, I would hope to operate in a more honest and upfront manner. Anyway, here are two differing sides of the story, both of which shed light on the business element of the coaching profession:
Side one
Side two
