He's a host that does broadcasts mildly related to sports on a sports radio station in New York, and syndicated around the country. Over the years, he managed to amass some influence, and has had notables like Clinton while he was President, and many other prominent political types on his show. He's pretty much down the middle, though he claims to be an "anti-Bush Republican".

This comment didn't surprise me, and honestly, I think it's being blown out of proportion. Imus' schtick is that he makes fun of everybody, including, and actually mostly, himself. Did he go too far? Sure. Did he mean what he said? Not likely.
