Dwyane Wade's only post-season victory
>> Tuesday
The keg is still spitting top foam and Miami has already left the party, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about D-Wade. Because on a personal level, he's about to wrap up the series against Mark Cuban.
Remember that whole situation with Wade calling out Dirk for not being a leader, and everyone thought, "Man, I thought Flash was a cool guy. Why would he say something bad about a big, nice German fella?" and then Cuban called him a pussy, and Charles Barkley refused to put Wade in his five? Something like that...remember that? Well Wade might have been onto something.
"I got to take what they give me and they don't really give me a lot"
That's Dirk. Not exactly sounding like a leader.
"So I've got to make other stuff happen -- help out on defense more; hit the glass harder, as hard as I can, get some extra possessions; if I have a shot, try to knock it down and if I don't, move the ball and let someone else make a shot."
Well, that certainly makes him a good teammate and everything, but this is not how Wilt, Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq (uh...you get the picture) won titles. You never heard any of them talk about "taking what they give me."
"They really go smaller and really sit down on my legs, don't let me put the ball down on the floor the way I want to and get to my spots."
This guy has gotten way too used to playing the Suns. It's called defense Dirk. It may not exist in the regular season, but these are the fucking playoffs. This is the season that people care about, and they'll do anything to win--even play defense.
Avery Johnson has said he's "Tired of hearing about how they've taken him out of his game and any lack of confidence."
I'd be tired of hearing about it too. In fact, if my star player was all of a sudden afraid to shoot a contested shot, I might go off on a rant like this:
"I wasn't the best of players and didn't have the best of skills, but you were not going to shake my confidence. We need all of our players to be confident, to be resilient, to be persistent and that's what I want to see tomorrow. If I don't see it at shootaround, I'm going to be highly upset ... because I need to have it going into that game tomorrow night. We've got to be confident and really sure about what we're doing."
Ouch. Do you think Avery can even blink without seeing Don Nelson's face?
