College Three Point Line Moved Back
>> Friday
I wrote about this in more detail on my new basketball blog From Way Downtown. I strongly approve of this new rule, as it should greatly improve the quality of play in college basketball.
An excellent example of someone helped by eliminating the three point shot from his game would be the Bulls Luol Deng. Deng spent the last offseason working on his mid-range jumper, and watched his scoring average and field goal percentage take a big step up. A lot of players would be wise to follow Deng's example, with Marquette's own Wesley Matthews immediately coming to mind.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the change too. I've had the growing sense over the last few years that college basketball has become almost entirely transition scoring, slashing, and thee-balls. Post play is almost never showcased, as the big man has become more of a putback specialist on offense.
While I can't say I mind it a whole lot, the sport would prosper from some more variety, as I think a lot of pro fans question its credibility because of this.
I also like that it's subtle, so the true shooters (e.g. Chris Lofton) won't suffer a bit, if they even notice.
Yea, it should not affect the pure shooters, except for maybe a couple of percentage points.
The one team I'd be really interested in seeing post rule change would be Memphis(assuming Calipari and his system is still there in a year). While they jack a lot of threes, they have a very free flowing, attacking offense that could really thrive given the increased open floor space.
And it could very well screw over Duke, who's often thrived on the 3-point contributions of average shooters.
Yes, although they've got two guys coming in, Kyle Singler and Taylor King, who can hit the three from anywhere on the floor.
