Rest In Peace, You Angry Motherfucker
>> Monday
A very sad day today, as the world says goodbye to one of the 5 funniest human beings that ever lived, George Carlin. Whether you know him as Mr. Conductor from Shining Time Station like Pat does (before Ringo took over) or as the guy who came up with a "7 Words You Can't Say on TV" bit that was totally different than Krusty's, Carlin was a king among men. Rest in peace.

Most of the time when famous people pass, I honestly don't care and don't pretend to because, well, they're just some other person who--in the grand scheme of whatever--made at best a marginal contribution to anything tangibly important, or maybe entertained some people but were equally remembered with indifference (sorta like any other person). But with Carlin and Russert going within a short span of time, I'll admit--my disdain for schmaltz be damned--that we've lost a couple famous people who a) we could genuinely connect with from afar and b) forced people to be stronger intellectually in a very immediate way.
Also, from a personal perspective, I'm sad to lose a publicly beloved and respected ally in my conviction that people shouldn't shower and groom so much. George--I promise to carry on your crusade!
